In INDIA, Tea varieties range from the strong black to the subtle white. Here’s a list of the most popular tea types and why you should try them. 

1. Green tea

When we list out the different types of teas and their benefits, Green tea tops the list with its numerous health benefits. It is the least oxidized of all tea types. Green tea is a beverage known worldwide for being both healthy and delicious. Among the various types of Green tea, Matcha and Sencha are the most loved. Green teas catechins have been found to help inhibit cancer growth. Green tea can also help lower cholesterol and inhibit the increase of blood pressure.

2. Black tea

The most oxidised of all tea types, these are stronger than most teas. The sheer variety of black tea available makes this tea one to try. Every season, there is a new kind of black tea (light to strong, full flavored to mellow) to look forward to. From the famous Assam black tea to the chocolaty Ceylon black tea, there are so many different types of black tea you can try. Black tea also contains antioxidants which may help to protect your body from the ravages of ageing. It is also known for its antiviral and antibacterial properties.Among the list of teas, black tea stands out as a great beverage that can boost heart health and may even help fight cancer. 

3. Masala Chai

For those who want a strong, milky, sweet-spicy cup, there’s nothing better than chai. Add some Indian spices such as elaichi, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and herbs to your everyday black tea. Masala chai! This aromatic and flavourful beverage originated in India but is now popular in snack houses across the world. It’s almost a snack in itself, full of nourishing qualities. And in winter, it can take the chills off like little else can. In addition to this it prevents body inflammation, and helps beat fatigue.

 4. Iced tea

Chilled tea, served in a tall glass filled with ice. It’s a tea suitable for drinking in summers. Now available as tea blends through the year. It’s a refreshing summer tea. An ice tea blend is made with tea leaves and other natural ingredients and served chilled, that makes it a great summer drink.

5. Kahwa

If you’re one of those familiar with the awesomeness of Kashmiri cuisine, you’d know of the mighty kahwa. Said to have health benefits like improving metabolism and the taste that’s as royal as it’s refreshing, kahwa is a type of green tea made with local ingredients not found in most other places of India {including authentic, Kashmiri saffron}.

6. Sulaimani Chai

A unique, low-key tea, this one is flavoured with palm jaggery, cardamom and lemon. It looks amazing and tastes just the same. 

7. Turmeric Tea

Turmeric has become the latest hipster trend. If you make tea and add milk, be sure to add some turmeric. It’s anti-inflammatory and overall good for your health. Be sure to use a teaspoon or less in the tea and add some jaggery. If you use decaffeinated tea, you can drink it at night before bed.

8. White Tea

It is minimally processed and is second only to green tea. It is made from the unopened buds and occasionally the first shoot of the plant. Usually, it’s made from the first flush tea when a tea plant is at its prime growth state.

To make a white tea, the leaves are only withered and lightly rolled. As a result, the beverage is extremely light, pale-colored or blush-toned and characterized by mellow floral-fruity flavors.
